His career began at the north west of England, playing Misadventure with his brother Nick, before he went to The Mystic Deckchairs in 1988. Hewitt met Brian Molko in 1991 by his then-friend and was invited to perform at demonstrations for Placebo band, although because of his obligations to Breed Hewitt was unable to join the band. The band made a record deal with drummer Robert Schultzberg, who recorded his first album in 1996. In the autumn of 1996 tensions led to the band’s removal from school in Schultzberg, Molko and bassist Stefan Olsdal. The breakdown of Breed allowed Hewitt to permanently agree to his invitation to Placebo. Hewitt appeared with his face fluttered in the 1997 video for the band “Nancy Boy,” since he was under contract to another record label.
Love Amongst Ruin (2007 to present)
Hewitt “went” to “the bar or the club” and experienced disaster, and then he started “a new band, new album and a new sound.” Hewitt came home to his home studio. He has contributed to the album drums, guitars, piano and leading vocals and is now collaborating with Jon Thorne and Donald Ross Skinner. Hewitt recorded additional guitars from Steve’s brother Nick, and Hewitt felt that he had captured his best drum sound ever on the album. The band had been called Love Amongst Destruction at the end of 2009. His first public performance since leaving the Placebo was at the Eurosonic Festival on the Netherlands on 14 January 2010.
Six by Seven (2012 to 2013)
In 1998, Hewitt became mates of the Six by Seven band when they played Placebo as an opening act. In 2012, Hevitt and Six of Seven Chris Olley’s frontman were reintroduced and started rehearsing new materials in Olley’s band (The Death of) Six By seven by mutual friend Steve Hove (a then-Guitarist for Love Amongst Ruin). The material they wrote saw the project eventually turn into a Six by Seven reformed project. In August 2012, Hewitt was named the new drummer of the band. In January 2013 the group entered Moles Studio in Bath to record the 7th album of the band. Love and Peace and Sympathy, the album was released on April 16, 2013, and in the middle of 2013 the band embarked on a tour of the UK.
