Rena Sofer and her family spent her childhood in Arcadia. She is the daughter of psychology professor Susan Franzblau and Conservative Jewish Rabbi Martin Sofer. Her family shifted when she was little to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Her parents divorced there after that, and Rena Sofer attended Frisch School in Paramus, New Jersey. She later lived in North Bergen with her dad, Temple Rabbi Beth EI. After graduating from North Bergen High School, she started courses at Montclair State College.
