Deborah R. Nelson-Mathers is an American writer and musician who was known as the Grammy Award winning rapper’s mother. She had a difficult childhood and she gave birth to Eminem as a teenager. Abandoned by her parents so she was struggling to meet ends and also suffered from mental illness. She was having strained relationships with her family that was expressed in his songs.
She thought her son was wrong to malign her in his songs, so she released a three-song CD to bring out her perspective. Eminem also mentioned later that his mother had never worked, and that they relied on social organizations welfare. It was apparent that her relationship with her son had been quite strained.

In 2008 she wrote a book about her friendship with Eminem entitled’ My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem.’ Stated to be one of the most controversial memoirs ever, this book also claimed that to gain popularity, Eminem had told several lies about her.
